Hosting any party can be tough, let alone the one that’s called the ‘Party of the Year’ and attended by the biggest names in both television and film. For this reason, it takes a special kind of person to emcee the star-studded Golden Globe Awards; past hosts include ‘Saturday Night Live’ alumni Amy Poehler and Tina Fey and British comedy legend Ricky Gervais. This round, finding the right host was especially important, as the expectation that whoever is at the helm will be able to provide biting political commentary, as per Hollywood tradition, without alienating mainstream viewers.
Cue Seth Meyers, the veteran television comic best known for his work as former head writer of ‘Saturday Night Live’ and as current host of the ‘Late Night’. Meyers is no stranger to the award show stage either, having hosted the 2014 Emmys.
But in a recent statement from Meher Tatna, the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, it was Meyers’ ‘natural comedic wit and innate ability to charm audiences’ that landed him the gig. Tatna added, ‘Seth will help us carry on the celebratory tradition of recognizing the best in television and film at the Party of the Year’.
The 75th annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony will broadcast live on NBC on Sunday 7 January 2018 at 5 pm PT / 8 pm ET. Nominations will be announced on Monday 11 December 2017.
