THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THEE COLD EASTER SUNDAY 17TH APRIL AT 9PM
Stay in and watch the channel premiere of the British cold war spy film, The Spy Who Came In from the Cold (1965), this Easter Sunday. Based on the novel of the same name by John le Carré, the film was released to critical acclaim, receiving several awards including four BAFTAs and an Academy Award nomination. The film follows British MI6 agent Alec Leamas (Richard Burton) on his mission to East Germany as a faux defector, given the task of sowing damaging disinformation about a powerful East German intelligence officer.
As part of a charade, Leamas is apparently dismissed from the British secret intelligence service, and soon finds himself approached by East German agents in Britain to sell his secrets for money. Things take a turn as Leamas becomes convinced that his own people see him as just a cog, and struggles with normality after years of dehumanisation in the service.
